deer sun grew out of the tandem processes of drawing and translating. 

 

the text was written by pablo besse (1971-2020), a mentor and collaborator. it initially formed part of a collective project that grew out of the drawing workshop, el ojo extraño. 

 

in making the project that i'm presenting here, i translated the text from spanish to english while composing the floor drawings. while the text and images are not related to one another in an illustrative manner, producing one allowed for the production of the other.

the project engages in a rehearsal, which is a form that sits in tension between the emergent and the preexisting.
